Saturday’s pre-season clash at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium was a rollercoaster of emotions for Spurs fans. In a tightly contested match against FC Bayern Munich, Tottenham fell just short, losing 3-2. Despite the defeat, there were plenty of positives to take away, especially with Dejan Kulusevski showcasing his talents by scoring both of our goals.
A Lightning Start
The atmosphere was electric from the get-go as Kulusevski wasted no time in putting us ahead. Just 23 seconds into the match, he found the back of the net, sending the stadium into a frenzy. It was the perfect start, one that gave us all hope that we could take down the German giants right here at home. But as the game progressed, Bayern showed their quality. Dayot Upamecano equalized in the 16th minute, and by halftime, they had turned the game around with goals from Serge Gnabry and Thomas Müller. Heading into the break 3-1 down was a bitter pill to swallow, especially after such a promising start.
Despite the scoreline, Spurs didn’t give up. The second half saw us claw our way back into the game. Kulusevski struck again just after the hour mark, this time finishing off a brilliant move with Lucas Bergvall, who was making his home debut. The connection between the two Swedes was something special, and it gave us all hope that we might salvage a draw. As the match wore on, we pushed hard for an equalizer. The lads showed real fight, and although we couldn’t find that crucial third goal, the effort and determination were there for all to see.
This team is starting to gel, and it’s clear that they’re ready to give everything for the shirt as we head into the new season!
Looking Forward to the New Season
As a fan, it’s easy to get caught up in the result, but pre-season is about more than just winning or losing. It’s about building chemistry, getting match fit, and working out the kinks before the real action begins. From what we saw against Bayern, there’s a lot to be excited about.
The return of key players like Cristian Romero, Micky van de Ven, Destiny Udogie, and Rodrigo Bentancur is a massive boost. These guys got some much-needed minutes under their belts, and that’s going to be crucial as we prepare for the Premier League opener against Leicester City on August 19th.
We’ve got 10 days to fine-tune things, and I’m confident that we’ll be ready to hit the ground running. Last season laid the groundwork, and now it’s time to build on that and take this team to the next level. The competition is fierce, but with the talent we have, there’s no reason why we can’t challenge at the top.
The loss to Bayern may sting, but it’s all part of the journey. We’re in this together, and come the start of the season, we’ll be ready to show what we’re made of. COYS!
